We drove to “McClures Beach trailhead” (enter McClures Beach or Pierce Point Rd Inverness, CA 94937 in your map app to get there). It was July 2020 . Before your visit, definitely check https://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/conditions.htm to see if it’s open. There are periodic mudslides and fires that could close McClures.

McClure’s Beach Trail is a 1.3 miles roundtrip that was easy enough for our 4.8 year old to do. A few other nuggets on it:

  • 4.5 out of 5 (67 reviews) on AllTrails
  • Parking lot has about 30 spots and 2 State Park type rest rooms
  • Downhill hike to beach; nice climb back up
  • Ends up at ocean
  • Rocks to climb once you’re on the beach. (On the left or right)
  • A ton of muscles on rocks and washing up on shore…cool driftwood too.
  • Animals spotted (red hawk, elk pelicans diving in the water, coyote (on side of the road)

Saltwater Depot for Lunch (Inverness)

Afterwards, we drove back down the hill and stopped off at Saltwater Depot at 12781 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Inverness, CA 94937:

They had nice outdoor seating (you order at the bar). We had:

  • Oysters (Fresh and Broiled)
  • Gem Salad
  • Fish and Chips
  • White wine
